The Appleton Group LLC is pleased to introduce the clearTREND U.S. Economic Health Index. This new index measures overall U.S. economic health by analyzing 135 unique sectors for price strength or weakness. Each of the 135 sectors is assigned either an “expanding,” “neutral” or “contracting” description. The overall health of the U.S. economy is then based on the percentage of sectors that are expanding: 100-75% = Excellent, 74-50% = Good, 49-25% = Fair, and 24-0% = Poor.

As of May 1, 2013 the index showed excellent conditions with a read of 76% expanding sectors.  However, this is down from the 84% expanding sectors from March 15, 2013 and is dangerously close to a downgrade from “excellent” to “good.”
